The Department of Geography is one of the oldest and also the largest in South India. It was established in 1942. It offers M.Sc. Geography, M.Sc. Geoinformatics, Post-Graduate Diploma in Geographical Cartography and Ph.D. programs. The Department had assistance from UGC (SAP and ASIST) and DST (FIST Phase I and II). The Department has been conferred with the status of Centre for Advanced Study (CAS). Its thrust areas are Urban Geography, Regional Development and Geoinformatics.
